METABOLIZE is the beginning of a series of works exploring physical and cultural consumption and metabolism.

Until the early 2000s, it was thought that eating food, digesting, and creating energy/discarding waste was a process of food becoming a part of the metabolizer’s body. In recent studies with mice, scientists have found that rice consumed by mice exist in trace amounts outside of its digestive system for long periods of time. These studies have altered the way that we understand the metabolization of food, to be more of an exchange process, rather than an absorption process.

SSSSEEING THINGSSSS
painted cotton onsen towel

2024
Text and type design from Strange Magazine Number 3, Special Monster Issue (1988).

Printed on a towel purchased at a hot spring spot. A cheap towel bought because I forgot my own.

A one-ply towel. It’s rough in texture because its 100% cotton and a little sparse in pile and loosely woven. Still, the hot spring towel is easily the best, most versatile hand towel, easy to clean, sturdy, reliable towel I’ve ever had.
